Rest In Peace.
We are sad to announce that Nonny the Cow has moved to greener pastures. She passed on January 16, 2009 at the ripe old age of 21 and a few days. She will be buried on the Hegstrom family farm as soon as the ground is thaw. Nonny was for a short time the official state recognized oldest cow in Maine. And we think that she may have also been the oldest cow in the United States, although is difficult to be certain unless someone steps forward with prove otherwise. Nonny was among the first four milking cows the Hegstrom family purchased when they reworked the family farm from raising chickens to milking cows and breeding replacement heifers. The Hegstrom family would like to thank Nonny for years of faithful service as a milking cow (where she produced 11 heifers a bull and over 1.6 million gallons of milk), and also for her loyal companionship for over 21 years.
